My Sorority

As I entered college I believed the best way to not get homesick would to be to get involved with the community. I had no idea what I wanted to get involved in or what I should do. I went to the club fair and a few clubs had sparked my interest. Also during this time was sorority recruitment. Going into college I had absolutely no intentions of joining a sorority. I had seen a lot of girls in them and thought they were nothing like me so there was no point. As the school started to begin I met a lot of older girls and everyone seemed to ask the same thing. That was "Are you rushing?" Every time they asked I had said no and they continuously asked why. I said because it didn't seem like something that would fit my needs. When I think about sorority's I think about everything you see in the movies. All the drama and the partying and well to say the least, that is nothing like me. I am a homebody, I love volunteering and working. I never had time to go out because when the clock struck 9pm I was in bed and all ready for bed. Somehow someone convinced me to go to sorority open house. As I went I talked to every sorority and nothing seemed to fit me. Again my friends convinced me to just try out recruitment and if it didn't work out I could always drop. I went to recruitment and talked to everyone. It was definitely one of the most intimidating process. I made it all 3 days and on the 3rd day it became the final decision. Which place should I pick? With a lot of thinking I realized that Phi Mu is where I belonged. During the end of sorority recruitment I realized there was so much more to a sorority. One of the main reasons I picked Phi Mu was because of its philanthropy. That is basically what it is known for to help the community in. Ours is the children's hospital and more specifically for here, Dukes Children Hospital. We are able to sign up and once a month go visit the children, bring toys that our sorority donated or even bought themselves. This was the main reason I picked my sorority and I wouldn't trade my sisters for the world. The photo down below is from bid day (best day). This is when we all found out if our top sorority had picked us, which luckily mine did.
