Growing up I was always a fairly healthy kid. I never had many issues and had never been to the hospital. In 2016 I started getting sick constantly. I had severe stomach pain and hospital visits and tests became normal. I was starting to get nervous that I would not be able to go to college out of state because of these unfound issues. I had to take out a lot of foods and everything said nothing was wrong. After two years of stomach issues, multiple doctors appointments, being pricked and poked twice a month, and multiple hospital visits they finally figured out was wrong. In a test where I was put under they were able to notice that I had celiac disease. When I went through all these issues, they ruled out celiac because my blood test was negative. Celiac disease is when you are severely allergic to gluten. To sum up gluten, it is wheat. I finally was happy to figure out what exactly was wrong with me but I had to change my life around quick. I couldn't eat bread, pasta, pizza, etc. Being a kid that was difficult for me. They have gluten free options in the stores but when you go out with friends it is very rare to find that they have gluten free stuff. You normally have to eat very basic stuff such as chicken and broccoli. There are times when I am out with my friends and wish I was "normal" but when I remember how awful gluten makes me feel and how I constantly get sick and my lower intestine is so swollen I cannot consume food for days, I stay away from it. Celiac has been a blessing and a curse. It has taught me to eat healthy and be healthy but it also has taken away a little bit of my childhood.
